ONGOING PROJECTS
The Remnant Logics of Immigrant Illegality
Drawing on 83 in-depth interviews with formerly undocumented immigrants, I show how legalization reconfigures—rather than resolves—the enduring effects of immigrant illegality. I am currently developing a book manuscript and several articles from this project.
Immigrant Detention Centers
In this co-led project with Rocio Rosales (UC Irvine), we draw on ongoing letter-writing correspondence with immigrants in detention across the United States to examine how detention centers operate as extensions of the broader carceral system.
Legal Status & Health
In this collaborative project with Luis Tenorio (Colby College) and Adriana Ceron (Yale), we combine in-depth interviews with formerly undocumented immigrants across California, Texas, and Georgia with data from the New Immigrant Survey to examine how legal status shapes healthcare access and interactions with medical institutions.
